Faster, more reliable journeys between the Sydney CBD and Westmead.
Bureau Veritas Buildings and Infrastructure Pty Ltd (formerly The APP Group), together with Certifer Solutions Australia, AECOM and SMEC, is providing Independent Certification services for the Sydney Metro West project. This work covers the Trains and Systems Supply and Maintenance and Operations package (TSMO), the Linewide package, and the various Stations packages established to complete the Sydney Metro West Project.
The joint venture will deliver Independent Certification services including:
- Certifying milestone achievements (e.g. completion and integration events).
- Reviewing design and completion of works.
- Advising on design and construction non-compliances.
- Supporting defect classification and rectification.
- Reviewing O&M Manuals and as-built records.
The Linewide package to be delivered by John Holland includes the installation of track, rail systems and associated infrastructure throughout the Sydney Metro West tunnels, as well as the development of the stabling and maintenance facility at Clyde. These works are the backbone of the operational metro system, integrating power, communications, ventilation, and safety systems across the alignment.
The TSMO package, awarded to the Metro Trains West Consortium, delivers the new metro trains, rail systems, signalling and control systems, along with long‑term maintenance and operational responsibilities. This package ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Sydney Metro West line once it opens.
The Stations Package West covers the design and construction of five new underground stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays. This includes station structures, architectural fit‑out, and public domain works that will support passenger movement and precinct integration. The Stations package will be delivered by Gamuda.
Other specific metro stations which will incorporate over site developments include the Hunter Street Station Package in Sydney’s CBD which has been awarded to a consortium of Lendlease, Mirvac and Coombes Property Group, and three other Station Packages which are expected to be awarded in 2026.
Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest public transport project. Once complete, the Sydney Metro network will have delivered 46 stations and 113 kilometres of new metro rail. Sydney Metro West will deliver a 24‑kilometre underground rail line between Parramatta and Sydney’s CBD.
The target opening date for Sydney Metro West is 2032.
