The Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program is investing in transformative infrastructure projects that will strengthen local communities throughout Western Sydney by improving liveability and supporting economic recovery across the region.
Blacktown City Council is delivering these initiatives and shaping a more connected, resilient, and vibrant future for the growing community. Diverse and multicultural, Blacktown City is the largest local government area by population in New South Wales, and it’s set to grow.
Leading together
The APP Group was appointed as lead consultant to help Blacktown City Council to respond to the $2 billion WSIG Program. To support the project funding applications, The APP Group proposed a set of design principles be embedded to drive best practice, culturally sensitive and sustainable design. The four design principles of Sustainability, Connecting with Country, Inclusive and Accessible Design, and Design for Dignity were proposed to embed a future focused, transformative benefits for the local community.
Creating a collaborative and open forum to develop the funding opportunity was a driving factor behind the success of our approach. We brought together expertise from across The APP Group and procured consultants to develop a suite of business cases in support of 71 community project applications. As project managers and leaders, The APP Group successfully managed collaboration between large multi-disciplinary teams of up 67 team members.
Together with the client team, we engaged closely with stakeholders from community and industry in a series of workshops over four weeks to identify opportunities that would meet WSIG’s criteria of transformative projects. The business case suite resonated with the review panel, with 69 of the 71 project applications accepted during the Registration of Interest phase. This result highlights The APP Group’s agility in driving projects to meet the Client’s preferred outcomes, in a fast evolving and constrained environment. This required careful pivoting in resourcing supported by clear leadership and timely workflow.
