Dunc Gray Velodrome

Sydney Olympics 2000

The Dunc Gray Velodrome, located in Sydney's southwest, is the home of track cycling for the 2000 Olympic Games. It was the venue for six days of the Olympic Competition and four days of the Paralympic Competition. 

The APP Group was intimately involved with the Dunc Gray Velodrome since the early design and planning stages of the permanent building and continued this involvement up through the overlay works through
to site management for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Our team were both the development and project managers for the facility. Within these dual rules, we procured and supervised for and on behalf of the Olympic Co-Ordination Authority individual contracts for over 30 distinct packages. To ensure these works were built per the contracts and within budget, it required careful analysis of the slim time frame in which to build.

The APP Group rose to the occasion, and the project was completed on time, under budget and beyond the expectation of the client, the Olympic Co-Ordination Authority and the end user, the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

The Velodrome project involved comprehensive planning and procurement strategies to suit specialised temporary infrastructure (overlay) works. Extensive overlay works in the venue, including unique technological, logistical and structural modifications, were constructed to suit the specialised requirements of the Green Games.

The Velodrome was altered to double the seating capacity for the Olympic period from 3000 to a gross seating capacity of 6000 to house additional spectators as well as local and international media, the
International Olympic Family and the International Cycling Federation.

Spectator assets included merchandising outlets, amenities and food catering outlets were required to be procured and constructed along with the housing for a large amount of behind the scenes staff.
