The Terraces Paddington

Providing expert advice for the redevelopment of a historic site in Sydney’s east.

“The Terraces” is located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and sits on the site of the historic Scottish Hospital dating back to the 1840s. With the existing facilities dating back to the 1970s, the Presbyterian Aged Care (PAC) needed to overhaul the site and improve the services and amenities offered to residents.

The vision for the project was to create a benchmark aged care facility that provide the strategic direction for PAC’s future developments and underpin their new operational management initiatives. The plans for the site went through many iterations over the previous 10 years before the scheme was approved and negotiated with Multiplex.

The redevelopment saw the construction of a new 100-bed aged care facility, a 23-bed dementia unit and the construction of 79 independent living units, in addition to the conversion of the heritage Scottish Hospital building. The project also included upgraded medical facilities, a library, theatre, spa and gymnasium, swimming pool and garden.

The APP Group was engaged as Superintendent for the project and was responsible for administrating the design and construct contract between PAC and Multiplex. The team operated cooperatively to resolve contractual matters impacting project delivery.
