Parramatta Park

Championing cultural heritage and conservation for one of Sydney’s key parklands.

Parramatta Park is one of Australia’s most important cultural heritage landscapes and is listed in the NSW and Australian heritage registers as well as the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is one of the earliest Aboriginal cultural heritage sites in Greater Sydney and is the traditional land of the Burramattagal clan of the Dharug people. The park currently attracts more than 4,500 visitors each day and is a strategic greenspace that forms part of the NSW Government’s transformation plans for Western Sydney.

The APP Group has been engaged by Parramatta Park and the Western Sydney Parklands Trust to deliver several projects including infrastructure upgrades for event spaces, new recreational facilities, conservation projects and adaptive reuse of heritage buildings. Due to the park’s cultural significance and heritage listings, construction had to meet stringent conservation, heritage and safety requirements.

In 2019, our team was appointed to project manage the preparation of a detailed plan for Parramatta Park’s vision and direction for the next decade –Your Parramatta Park 2030. The plan places heritage and cultural landscape values at the centre of future planning by combining the park’s conservation and management plans together. The plan promotes and informs the heritage values, as well as the Trust’s commitment to the ongoing care and activation of the park. It was adopted by the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces on 26 February 2020.

Other related projects by The APP Group include Parramatta Park Café and improved access to National Parks in NSW.
