A Shopping Destination Fit for Today and the Future

Chadstone Shopping Centre is Australia's most iconic shopping mall. The landmark centre, known as The Fashion Capital, is co-owned by the Gandel Group and Vicinity Centres. Chadstone continues to rank among the top four shopping centres globally by sales volume, with more than $2 billion in annual sales, and welcomes more than 24 million visitors every year.

The evolution of Chadstone has continued for 60 years to create a world-class retail-led destination incorporating dining, entertainment, offices and accommodation.

APP has worked with Vicinity Centres since 2016 to deliver several stages in the expansion of Chadstone. We were also separately appointed to deliver the $100M, 250-room luxury Hotel Chadstone MGallery by Sofitel.

In 2018, APP was engaged to provide project management services, superintendency and tenancy services for a major upgrade to Chadstone's East Mall.

APP was appointed for our expertise, which would be required to deliver the Atrium redevelopment in a tight program.

Stakeholder engagement pivotal to success

APP worked closely with Vicinity Centres’ development, leasing, design teams and the Head Contractor. The team aimed to ensure the redevelopment was delivered on time

Our retail specialists actively managed and engaged with all stakeholders through open and timely communication. In our retail work, we understand the intricacies of concurrently managing the base build and the tenancy delivery.

Our approach is to manage each tenancy as its own 'micro' project, to achieve overall development success. To the project team's credit, all tenancies were open and trading on the grand opening day.

A sophisticated precinct for the discerning shopper and diner

Despite several leasing challenges and design changes, APP worked effectively with both Vicinity Centres and the Head Contractor to develop alternative solutions. We were able to re-sequence programmes to mitigate delays. The redevelopment was delivered successfully, with all tenancies opening on time.

The sleek and sophisticated precinct is anchored by the first full-line Australian flagship Victoria's Secret store. The Mall has new finishes, reshaped voids and balustrades and new vertical transport connecting the Ground Floor Mall to the redeveloped Lower Ground Food Atrium.

The Lower Ground Food Atrium has been redesigned to create an alternative dining destination. Located in the Atrium are 21 new food and beverage, and speciality tenancies.

Vicinity Centres is delighted with the redevelopment of the East Mall Atrium and the services of our APP retail specialists.

APP added significant value in design management and stakeholder relationship management – which was critical given the number of key international brands we were required to deal with. (They) achieved optimal outcomes from a time, quality, and cost perspective.

The team were disciplined, and across every detail of the project, and gave a real sense that they were a safe pair of hands.
