In 2009, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) enlisted the assistance of APP as Principal Consultant to provide project management and full design services to the “Building the Education Revolution” program in Melbourne’s Southern Metropolitan and Gippsland regions.

This was a major program with a budget of $649 million, covering works in 320 schools where the developments are a combination of new facilities, refurbishments and relocatable buildings. The program included the construction of teaching and learning facilities for both primary and secondary schools, with the works undertaken across 3 stages.

Rapidly responding to mobilise the right teams

APP was selected because of our ability to rapidly mobilise the project team, so that all works could be started on schedule and our proven ability to manage concurrent works on site.  More than 100 staff were deployed by APP to deliver the services; project managers, architects, engineers of all types and technical specialists– the team then tendered and supervised over 40 concurrent works packages across the sites.

“Managing all the different competing requirements of the Department, the schools, the Commonwealth and the site conditions was a complex process,” says Fiona Tellefson.  “The APP team showed an amazing level of commitment throughout this whole project to deliver the best possible outcomes for our future generations.”

Our client, DEECD, was very happy with APP's performance and the results achieved.  Listen to Steve Lupton as he describes how APP contributed to the success:

“In a total delivery process we need someone what can actually listen, can be responsive, can be innovative or can come up with some good solutions to what appears to be at that point in time unsurmountable problems; and APP was able to do that."
