Developing a key hub for the community of Ellenbrook and visitors in WA
On completion of the Midland Gate Shopping Centre redevelopment, Vicinity Centres strategy remained consistent. The West Australian suburb of Ellenbrook is one the fastest-growing catchments in Perth’s north-east growth corridor, evidenced by population growth averaging 12 per cent per annum since 2011.
After acquiring Ellenbrook Central in 2015, Vicinity Centres quickly identified the centre as key hub for the community and earmarked the centre for redevelopment / expansion to service the fast-growing Eastern suburb population.
APP was engaged by Vicinity Centres to undertake the planning, design, procurement and delivery of the Ellenbrook Central Shopping Centre Stage 3 Redevelopment, including management of the funding approval. The expansion features a new Kmart, an additional 16 specialty stores, food and beverage retailers, three mini-major tenancies, kiosks, new mall areas and a new roof deck car park. The 13,000 square metre expansion will bring the centre’s total offering to more than 120 retailers and brands.
The project commenced onsite in August 2019 and was set on an ambitious 11-month program. With an already challenging timeframe, COVID-19 provided additional restrictions on the project and delivery. However, the project team navigated its way through every hoop and over each hurdle with great determination and perseverance to meet the centre’s opening date on the 16th of July 2020 - a huge accomplishment and job well done by all involved.
