Backpacks 4 SA Kids provides emergency backpacks filled with essential items such as clothing, toiletries, underwear and some distraction items such as toys, books and a cuddle toy, to children who have been displaced from home. Each year, the number of children in desperate need in South Australia is increasing. In 2020 alone, 1901 backpacks have been distributed. During the 2019/20 Bushfire season and COVID-19 pandemic, when more people are experiencing hardship, Backpacks 4 SA Kids’ operational needs are becoming increasingly urgent.
APP will be working with Backpacks 4 SA Kids to meet the organisation’s vision and objectives in two stages. During stage 1, funding will be sought for Backpacks 4 SA Kids and their programs, as well as a business analysis. Stage 2 will involve obtaining a tenant representative and the procurement of a new warehouse, including fitout and new facilities to improve Backpacks 4 SA Kids’ production lines and services.
The new warehouse facility could mean Backpacks 4 SA Kids drastically improves operations including staff and volunteer’s efficiency due to reduced double-handling. Increased space will also mean the ability to accept donations, host fundraising events as well as ability to implement volunteer corporate days and other opportunities for new partnerships.
Backpacks 4 SA Kids assists over 11,500 children per year.
