APP worked closely with the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and CI Australia to upgrade the existing marina, which was vulnerable to flooding and had begun to deteriorate due to its age. In the role of Project Manager, APP were responsible for overseeing the design and development of this challenging project, ensuring that the complexities of constructing over water, and the associated environmental and safety issues, were addressed.
The Marina has been a much-loved feature of the local community for over 100 years and so it was also imperative to liaise with residents to discuss the potential impact of the redevelopment and ensure their views were acknowledged.
The new marina, which opened to the public on 28 March 2018, will provide the boating community with better and safer facilities, with an increased number of berths and a lower risk of damage and flooding from high tides and improved services, such as a pump-out facility. It also delivers improved security, storage and safer water access for kayak and paddle board users. Furthermore, the marina includes a new café and outdoor seating area, shower facilities and improved disabled access, enabling the local community to enjoy the spectacular views of Sydney Harbour.
