APP, in a joint venture with Arcadis, has been the Project Verifier for the new bridge, providing design and construction verification services, including surveillance of the D&C Contractor’s works and certification of compliance with contract and quality requirements.
The Grafton Bridge is a game changer, providing a critical connection for the whole community, improving traffic efficiency and road safety. The two-lane bridge has been designed so that it can be increased to four lanes when traffic levels require it. The NSW Government funded the $240 million project involving an additional 525 metre bridge, 70 metres downstream from the existing road and rail bridge. Upgrades in Grafton and South Grafton were also made to connect the bridge to the existing road network.
The Grafton community turned out in their thousands to celebrate the new bridge. Representatives from the Bundjalung and Gumbanyggirr nations performed a smoking ceremony on the bridge prior to the first cars crossing.
Congratulations to all involved in this exciting project including Fulton Hogan (D&C Contractor), Transport for NSW and the APP/Arcadis site team.
