Campbelltown, southwest of Sydney, is located within Australia’s fastest growing region and Council’s vision is to build a modern and liveable city centre that is the capital of opportunity and culture for the Macarthur region.
Council aims to achieve this vision by leveraging their substantial land assets to generate new catalyst developments for the City, including a Sports Precinct, Justice Precinct, a number of high quality residential, retail and commercial projects, and a series of public domain improvements.
Supported by a high-performing project team including Hassell, Atlas Urban Economics, MBM Quantity Surveyors, APP’s role is to devise a strategy that facilitates the development of the City by proposing a number of ‘catalyst projects’ to drive renewal.
Through economic analysis and strategic place-making, the project team will identify an appropriate land-use mix for each catalyst project. These projects will then be designed and costed to enable the preparation of bankable feasibility models.
APP’s role also involves undertaking and managing various technical and strategic investigations including the development of a planning framework, preparation of design guidelines, economic benefit analysis, funding strategies, Precinct-level development programs, analysis of delivery mechanisms and a range of other inputs that will inform the final development strategy.
The deliverable, due October 2021, will be a development strategy backed by a set of bankable feasibilities.
APP’s urban development team has been working with Campbelltown Council for over 15 years. Aidan Werry, Project Director for the Strategy, says: “This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen Campbelltown’s position as the cultural and economic heart of the Macarthur region. The project will equip Campbelltown to capitalise on the unprecedented growth of Sydney’s southwest, enhancing the City’s liveability and enabling the prosperity of the region’s existing and future residents.”
