City vitality: the big picture

APP supported the recent City Vitality event, hosted by the Committee for Brisbane in early November. The event featured a panel including ISPT’s Chris McCluskey, Steve Dickson from the University of Queensland, Kerrianne Meulman of Urban Economics, State Government Architect Malcolm Middleton and Hayden Hughes from Sofitel Hotel Brisbane.

Moderated by APP’s Ross Elliott, the event explored other aspects of the economy that drives inner city vitality – from retail, to education, to hospitality, to residential, leisure, culture and other aspects of inner city life. A lively discussion flowed and, as Ross noted, not once was an office market vacancy rate discussed. “The CBD and inner city is the single biggest mixed use precinct in the state so it was entertaining and informative to explore aspects of that use beyond the usual office market angle,” said Ross.
