BP4SAK provides emergency backpacks filled with essential items such as clothing, toiletries, underwear and some distraction items such as toys, colouring and reading books and a cuddle toy to children who have been displaced from home. The organisation also provides other services such as:
- Anchor packs, which support teens between 12-25 years of age who are living in difficult circumstances on the streets
- Home Starter Packs go to families that have left a violent relationship at home and need to start again, and
- Christmas Drive to give gifts to each child and young person going into emergency care.
The project is now in stage 2, to engage a tenant representative and procure a new warehouse. Procuring a new warehouse allows for BP4SAK to continue their services by expanding their stock inventory operations with advance racking equipment. A new warehouse facility also means Backpacks 4 SA Kids can drastically improve operations including staff and volunteer efficiency due to reduced double-handling. Increased space will also enable the organisation to accept donations, host fundraising events, implement volunteer corporate days and offer other opportunities for new partnerships.
