Darkness into Light (DiL) is the flagship event for Pieta House, an Irish charity who provide therapy for those affected by suicide and self-harm. In 2016, DiL Sydney established a partnership with batyr which, so far, has enabled them to run 24 batyr@school programs throughout Waverly and the Eastern Suburbs, encouraging positive conversations about metal health.
DiL began in 2009 when 400 people walked a 5k route through Dublin’s Phoenix Park to raise awareness of suicide and self-harm. Since then, the event has blossomed into a global movement. Saturday 12 May 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the event and will see over 200,000 participants in 180 cities across 11 countries walk 5km routes and finish as the dawn is breaking, journeying together from Darkness Into Light.
APP are excited to be involved in DiL and are confident that the success of the events held in Australia will ensure batyr can continue to offer a range of programs for young people across Australia that ‘give a voice to the elephant in the room’, helping to smash the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging young people to reach out for help when they need it.
We’re calling on the corporate community to take part in Darkness into Light and help batyr to achieve their goal of reaching a million young Australians with their positive mental health programs by 2022.
