We are delighted to announce that the new teaching and learning facility has now been completed, with staff moving into the building last week.
NeW Space is part of UON’s city campus, which is intended to breathe new life into the city centre as part of a growing business and education precinct.
The project is jointly funded as an initiative of the Australian Government being conducted as part of the Education Investment Fund, the New South Wales State Government and the University of Newcastle.
The new campus facility comprises over 10,000m2 of functional space including a library and information common, collaborative learning spaces and zones for professional and community engagement. The new building was awarded 5 green stars for its sustainable design, which focuses on minimising energy consumption, promoting natural ventilation and light, and reusing rainwater for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation.
Ethan Clark, APP’s Project Director on NeW Space, says “We’re delighted with the delivery of this world-class space and are excited to see the positive impact this new precinct will have on the UON’s staff and students. APP is proud to have played an important role in bringing the University of Newcastle’s vision for NeW Space to life.”
With the first stage in the transition of staff now well underway, we look forward to seeing NeW Space transform and thrive with the presence of students in the coming weeks.
