The New M5 Project will link the upgraded King Georges Road Interchange on the existing M5 East Motorway with a tunnel through to St Peters. The New M5 will be constructed using ‘tunnel stubs’ to support possible future connections to the proposed M4-M5 Link (Stage 3 of WestConnex) and the proposed Southern Connector (part of the Gateway to the South project).

Project works comprise: 9 km of new motorway tunnels accommodating two lanes in each direction (with provision for three lanes in future); widening and realigning the existing M5 East Motorway; a new free-flow interchange at St Peters incorporating 17 major structures; two new road bridges across Alexandra Canal; 14 km of new and upgraded pedestrian, cycle and shared paths; water treatment and ventilation facilities; tolling infrastructure; and fire and safety systems.

The IC Team will be responsible for reviewing and verifying a major portion of the design, ensuring the tunnels and extensive associated infrastructure are designed to standard. The IC Team will be also be on site during construction to verify contractor works are in accordance with scope of works.
