The main highlight during the Graduate Program was working on the 2020 Grand Prix. This was a baptism of fire, particularly as event week approached. It provided me with invaluable experience and great belief in what I was capable of. The cancellation of the 2020 Grand Prix due after three months of intense work required a step-change to another complex major project for Epworth Hospital that challenged me in other ways.
The level of support and responsibility was quite well balanced – I believe that the best way to learn is to be given as much responsibility as possible and that was certainly the case. Having said this, whenever support was required it was always forthcoming.
My experience so far with APP has been overwhelmingly positive, despite the challenges of having to endure a chunk of my grad year confined to a home office. The support provided to me by my team during this time made the year far easier than it ought to have been under such circumstances.
At this stage of my career I want to continue to learn and to expose myself to projects from various sectors and in various stages. As many former grads have done in the Melbourne office, I am looking forward to hopefully progressing towards a PM role and beyond, taking on responsibility on projects that make a mark on the city.
