SKODA Stadium Sydney Showground
APP as Project Manager responsible for the $388M redevelopment of the Sydney Showground in 1998, recently returned to manage the delivery of a substantial upgrade to the Main Arena. This expansion to the Arena now provides Sydney and NSW with a home ground for Sydney's newest AFL team – the GWS Giants, as well as having the facilities needed to attract other sporting, entertainment (concerts and music festivals) and cultural events to the state of NSW.
The seating capacity of the Main Arena has increased from 13,000 to 24,000 (in AFL mode the overall capacity is 25,000). This upgrade also included the associated facilities such as new media facilities, hospitality inclusive of corporate suites, security facilities, and high-grade playing turf. Unique to the Arena is a new 269m2 oval-shaped video screen at the Eastern end of the venue. The screen is the largest in the Southern hemisphere and forms a distinctive part of the venue’s identity.
