Myer Melbourne Redevelopment
Project details:
APP helps transform iconic department store into world-class shopping experience
In 2007, APP Corporation was appointed as Client Representative and Project Manager for Myer on the redevelopment of its iconic, heritage-listed Bourke Street Store in Melbourne.
This historic department store, including the Lonsdale Street premises, was sold by Myer to a consortium of investors for a record-breaking CBD deal of over $600m. As part of the deal, Myer consolidated the majority of its operations into the Bourke Street store.
“The works were staged over three years, in a challenging environment which required the store to remain operational at all times,” said Jonathan Caughey, APP’s project director. “We initially carried out a strategic overview of the Development Agreement between Myer and the Developer, and were subsequently appointed as Project Manager.”
The existing store has now been transformed into a dazzling shopping environment, inspired by some of the world’s great retailers in London, New York, and Paris. The redevelopment includes refurbishment and construction of nine levels of retail floor-space including a top floor mezzanine level and the heritage listed Mural Hall.
APP’s proven ability to work under the requirements of a complex commercial agreement whilst maintaining a focus on total project delivery was key to our appointment. The APP and Myer project teams were integrated to provide a dedicated and coordinated approach to project delivery.
The result is a world-class retail environment that recently won the prestigious Store Design of the Year at the 2011 Oracle World Retail awards, which recognises excellence in design.
