Graduate@APP
Edward Eve
Tell us about yourself – what are your qualifications?
Firstly I studied at Newcastle University and completed a Bachelor of Science (Architecture) degree, followed by the Master of Property Development at the University of Technology Sydney. When I was young I aspired to be Batman, followed by a racing car driver, a Sega games tester, then a paediatrician – and then I found my niche studying the built environment.
What made you apply for APP’s graduate programme?
I first met some people from APP at the 2010 UTS Careers Fair. I was impressed with the diversity of roles and projects within the group and felt comfortable that I could work well with the people I met.
What were your thoughts on the rotational graduate recruitment programme?
It was a valuable experience. It was a great way to build relationships across the business and to gain experience in roles I had never initially considered.
What has been your experience with APP so far?
Since joining the group I have worked with the Projects, Property and Urban Development business units gaining a variety of experience. I have done everything from organise council approvals at Landcom’s master-planned community ponds, through to assisting on the project management of the $900 million Star City redevelopment. I have accepted an Assistant Development Manager role within the Property team and am looking forward to the challenges ahead.
What is the biggest challenge of the graduate programme?
The biggest challenge is moving on from a role that you have become quite committed to at the end of a rotation period. After this, you need to quickly come up to speed on new projects so that you can immediately start to contribute to them.
How would you describe the culture/environment/people at APP?
There is a lively professional culture. The newly renovated 116 Miller Street head office is a great space for both working and social tasks, and the people are quickly becoming good friends. They’re very approachable across all levels.
