APP joins the “Education Revolution” with 280 Victorian schools

In 2009, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development enlisted the assistance of APP as Principal Consultant to provide project management and full design services to the “Building the Education Revolution” program in Melbourne’s Southern Metropolitan and Gippsland regions.

This is a major program with a budget of $649 million, covering works in 280 schools where the developments are a combination of new facilities, refurbishments and relocatable buildings.

“APP is playing its part in the Commonwealth Government’s stimulus package,” says Bridget Horsley, Project Director for APP. “We are expected to deliver the results according to a specified timetable.”

APP was selected because of its ability to rapidly mobilise the project team, so that all works could be started on schedule and our proven ability to manage concurrent works on site.  More than 100 staff were deployed by APP to deliver the services; project managers, architects, engineers of all types and technical specialists– the team then tendered and supervised over 40 concurrent works packages across the sites.

To date over 75% of the facilities have been completed with the remaining due for completion through 2012. The client has been impressed with APP’s ability to respond with the quantum of quality resources required for this major program.

“Managing all the different competing requirements of the Department, the schools, the Commonwealth and the site conditions was a complex process,” says Bridget Horsley.  “The APP team has shown an amazing level of commitment throughout this whole project to deliver the best possible outcomes for our future generations.”
