APP Sustainability Policy
APP is one of Australia’s leading Project Management companies; we take our role in sustaining the future very seriously. In managing the built environment, infrastructure and business systems APP is helping to shape our society’s future. Sustainability is not just another service offering; it is integral to the way we do business and embedded in our culture.
Scope
APP activities are largely office based. This policy covers APP’s branch office operations located around Australia, including New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and
Western Australia.
Assurance
We will regularly review our performance and seek external review and assurance of our public reporting.
Governance
APP’s Board holds to the key operational tenets of integrity and accountability. These tenets are cornerstones of APP’s Core Values and are supported and practised by all staff when dealing with peers, clients, subcontractors and the community.
Economic
As a subsidiary of a publicly listed company, APP strives to maximise shareholder returns.
Our profitability is driven by our success; achieved through a commitment to our clients’ objectives and adding value to their business.
APP will aim to employ people from the local community so we may return value to that community, whilst minimising social dislocation for staff.
Environmental
APP is committed to reducing its environmental footprint. We have established the boundaries of our operations; identified our environmental aspects and impacts; and committed to objectives and targets for ongoing improvement. We are committed to making a positive contribution internally and, through our interactions with clients, we will explore opportunities to improve their sustainability outcomes.
APP understands that application of the precautionary principle – making a decision that favours the environment where there is uncertainty - is part of our ethical responsibility to maintain natural systems.
APP is committed to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance through the implementation and review of our Sustainability Strategy. Through the Strategy, APP will aim to minimise its impacts on the environment by:
- using energy and water more efficiently;
- reducing the amount of waste produced and increasing the quantity of waste re-used and recycled;
- incorporating environmental practices into our core business plans and management processes;
- regularly monitoring and reporting on our environmental performance;
- complying with applicable legal and other requirements, including relevant policies; and
- communicating this policy and other environmental management commitments to all staff.
Through a process of auditing and senior management review, APP will ensure environmental management systems and controls are active and are consistent across the various APP office locations. APP will seek certification for all branch offices to its Environmental Management System under ISO14001:2004.
Social
At APP we recognise that our employees’ wellbeing is fundamental to our business success. We provide a working environment based on the principles of diversity, fairness, equity and equal employment opportunity. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or bullying. APP has committed to following these policies and to recording our performance in these areas.
APP has always provided open forums for employee communication, through regular Communications Meetings, the Innovation Development Group and staff bulletins. APP also ensures that pertinent information relating to our parent company is made available to our staff and that access is provided to the employee intranet.
Human Rights
APP will support and respect internationally recognised human rights. We will develop protocols as we enter into business in new countries to ensure we are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Community
APP contributes to the community through our substantial involvement with Redkite – a charity providing wide-ranging support services to families battling childhood cancer.
APP has an open and transparent approach to the engagement of stakeholders on behalf of our clients.
Product Responsibility
APP will exercise due care in delivering its services to ensure that social and environmental impacts are minimised whilst at all times protecting client privacy.
