APP has been engaged by the University of Newcastle as Principal Consultant for the development of the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), located on the former BHP-Billiton Newcastle Technology Centre.  With a research focus in clean energy production, energy efficiency and minimising carbon emissions, NIER is the most comprehensive facility of its kind in Australia.  

The project includes the significant refurbishment of an existing stock of 8 research buildings over 3.8 hectares including offices, research laboratories and large scale pilot plant workshops. The project also includes the design and construction of a new research building to accommodate cutting edge research in energy efficiency and sustainability.
