171 Collins Street Melbourne
Project details:
APP Project Manages BHP Billiton’s New Commercial Headquarters.
BHP Billiton will be the head tenant in one of APP’s latest office developments, 171 Collins Street Melbourne, a building which will be a landmark in terms of quality, finishes and green credentials.
On completion in 2013, the building will house the new headquarters of BHP Billiton, and have a mix of boutique food and beverage and fashion retail tenancies, as well as an eight-storey boutique office complex that forms part of the retained Heritage façade along Collins Street.
“It was exciting to work on such a premium building,” says Chris Freeman, Project Director for APP. “The building will have the best energy ratings available, and the ecologically sustainable characteristics are the highest achievable.”
Based on APP’s experience in recent large-scale commercial office accommodation projects, APP was appointed in 2010 by the joint venture of Cbus Property and Charter Hall Office REIT, to provide Project Management and Superintendency services for the design, procurement and construction phases of the development.
There were several challenges – the rigour of working within a tight high profile site, completion of the project to meet the occupation guidelines, superintendency of the builder, and achieving a high standard of quality control to meet the design aspirations.
APP have provided effective project management to enable the building design to reduce waste, site pollution and energy consumption, by developing a strategy to reduce building time and manage the site more efficiently.
